RentAPlace helps the Vietnamese community in the UK find rented rooms without being scammed. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
We never take your money. RentAPlace is not a letting agent and never holds a deposit. Deposits are paid directly to the landlord. We do not sell your data, we do not share it for advertising, and there is no tracking or analytics in the app.
RentAPlace is operated from the United Kingdom. For any privacy question, or to ask for your data or its deletion, email support@rentaplace.uk. We aim to reply within 5 working days.
| Data | Why | Who can see it |
|---|---|---|
| Email address and password | To create and secure your account | You and our administrators. Passwords are stored hashed by our authentication provider and are never visible to us. |
| Display name | So the other party knows who they are talking to | Anyone using the app |
| Phone number (landlords, optional) | So a renter can call or message you about a room | Signed-in renters only. Never shown publicly. Leave it blank and renters can only use in-app messages. |
| Listing details and room photos | To advertise a room | Anyone, once the listing is approved |
| Chat messages | To let renters and landlords talk | The two people in the conversation, and an administrator if the conversation is reported |
| Reviews of landlords | To build a public trust record | Anyone using the app |
| Identity and right-to-let documents | To verify that a landlord is who they say they are and may legally let the property | Only our administrators. Never shown to renters or other landlords. See below. |
| Reports and blocks | To keep people safe from abuse | Your block list is private to you. Reports go to our administrators. |
To earn a verification seal, a landlord uploads identity documents (such as a passport, BRP or UK driving licence), proof of the right to let, and optionally a deposit-protection certificate from a past tenancy.
The app can schedule reminders on your own device — for example, to check that your deposit was protected within 30 days. These are generated locally on your phone. They are not push notifications and no notification content leaves your device.
Data is stored on Supabase infrastructure in the United Kingdom (London region). Supabase acts as our data processor and does not use your data for its own purposes.
Under UK GDPR we rely on: contract, for the data needed to run your account and let you use the service; legitimate interests, for verifying landlords, moderating content and preventing fraud; and consent, for anything optional such as adding your phone number.
You have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, to object to processing, and to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
You can delete your account yourself, from inside the app: Profile → Delete my account. This permanently removes your profile, your listings, your messages and your uploaded documents. It cannot be undone. Reviews you wrote about a landlord may remain, without your name attached, because they form part of that landlord's public trust record.
RentAPlace is not intended for anyone under 16 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page and, for anything significant, tell you in the app.
